THE 2007 NCAA EAST REGIONAL IS SOLD OUT
East Rutherford, NJ – Tickets for the 2007 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball East Regional are sold out.
The NCAA East Regional, hosted by Rutgers University, will be played March 23 and 25, 2007 at Continental Airlines Arena. Four teams will compete in the East Regional with the winner advancing to the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta, Ga.
“The NCAA is thrilled that our East Regional has already reached sellout status,” said L.J. Wright, Director of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. “It is a tribute to the hard work of our host institution, Rutgers University, and the support of NCAA basketball fans in New Jersey.”
Rutgers has hosted 9 NCAA East Regionals at Continental Airlines Arena, most recently in 2004. Continental Airlines Arena has a distinguished NCAA Tournament history – having been the site of 10 East Regionals (1986-91, 93, 95, 99, 2004), one first-and-second round (1984), and the 1996 NCAA Final Four.
Ticket applications for the 2007 NCAA East Regional were made available in late March. Because the number of applications received by the May 1 deadline far exceeded the number of tickets available, a random-selection drawing took place resulting in the sold out status. This marks the 11th consecutive time that the East Regional, when held at Continental Airlines Arena, has sold out and required a random-selection drawing due to the high number of applications.
"It’s a tremendous honor for Rutgers to be the host of the 2007 NCAA East Regional, and we’re thrilled that it is a sell-out this far in advance. It is a testament to the outstanding and passionate college basketball fans in our area,” said Rutgers Director of Athletics Bob Mulcahy. “We have worked very well with the Meadowlands staff on past NCAA basketball tournaments we have hosted, and the 2007 Regional will be no different. We’re looking forward to a great weekend of college basketball.”
